What Sullivan's Island does to a window
Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms are two barrier islands with the Atlantic on one side and the Intracoastal and the marsh on the other, and there is no side of either island that escapes the salt. Oceanfront glass on the front beach, at Wild Dunes and along Middle Street dries a white film within a week of a cleaning, heaviest on a northeast wind or in a nor'easter when the spray carries across the whole island. On the harbor end near Fort Moultrie the salt comes off Charleston Harbor as well. On the sun side it bakes, and once it bakes it starts to etch.
Away from the dunes the salt eases but never stops. The homes on the Intracoastal side and the marsh at Forest Trail and the back of Wild Dunes take a damp haze every morning, the live oaks and palmettos on the interior lots drop pollen each spring, and blowing sand scratches the lower panes on windy afternoons. Vacation rentals turn over every week, which means sliders and porch glass get handled constantly and never see a proper cleaning. The elevated homes with window walls facing the ocean are the hardest working glass in the county.
Most Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms homes do best on an every-two-months plan, and oceanfront homes often want monthly in the windy months. A first cleaning, inside and out, is $259 for a home up to 2,000 square feet, $329 for 2,000 to 3,500 square feet, and $429 for larger homes on our Silver package. After that, a quarterly maintenance plan runs $60, $77, or $100 a month for those same home sizes. Oceanfront and riverfront estates get a custom quote.
How often should windows be cleaned in Sullivan's Island?
Every two months for most Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms homes, and monthly for oceanfront glass in the windy months. Intracoastal-side and interior homes sometimes stretch to quarterly in summer. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.
Do you work in the gated communities?
Yes. We work in Wild Dunes and its villa buildings, in Forest Trail, and in the oceanfront condo buildings on the Isle of Palms front beach with fob access. Just add us to your gate list or tell us the procedure when you book.
Can you remove hard water spots from sprinklers?
In most cases, yes. Mineral spots from sprinkler overspray need a dedicated treatment rather than regular cleaning. Tell us about them on the quote form and we will look at them on the first visit.
